News has reached the HSA confirming rumours that South Wales hare hunt, the Monmouthshire & Valley Beagles, have folded.
This follows a string of other hunts in the region closing down in recent years, including the nearby Caerphilly & District Foxhounds who we reported were to hunt for the final time last season.
The M&VB hunted the valleys and hill country of Monmouthshire and Glamorganshire. The hunt was formed by the amalgamation of two separate packs, the Valley Beagles and the Monmouthshire Beagles in 2015.
A spokesperson for the HSA said,
“This is yet another example of hunts with dwindling support joining together in an attempt to survive.
This is something we’re seeing more and more – especially with the hare hunting beagle and basset packs – but as we’ve seen in this case, these attempts are often futile and can’t stem the tide of change that is fast dumping hunting into the dustbin of history.”
