The Hunt Saboteurs Association was proud to join over 60,000 marchers in central London yesterday to demand that the new government Restore Nature Now. With 350 organisations represented – from Extinction Rebellion to the Bat Conservation Trust – this was the largest march of its kind in history.
Organised by HSA supporter Chris Packham, Restore Nature Now calls for a ‘pay rise’ for nature and greater access to our natural world.
The HSA contingent brought the horror of hunting to the streets of London by blowing hunting horns and playing a chilling recording of foxhounds in full cry.
Earlier in the day, the HSA’s Chair addressed the huge crowd and had some sage advice for the thousands of marchers and hundreds of organisations present:
“We are the longest surviving direct-action group in the world. People will tell you direct action doesn’t work; we are proof that it does. As you all know – you’ve seen the papers – hunting with hounds is on its way out. It’ll be gone in three to five years.
You have to have direct action in your movement to make sure that the politicians sit up and take notice. If you don’t, they’ll just go ‘oh well, another petition, oh well another march.’ They need to know that people like us will get in the face of people who abuse animals and destroy the environment. As part of that we need a right to roam, we need a legal right to actually get on land and see what is going on there and stop it being hidden!”
The HSA would like to thank Chris Packham for our invitation to march and for his stalwart support in the face of violence and intimation from the fox hunters.
At this crucial time in the fight against bloodsports, please consider joining the
