Teme Effort: Another Hunt Involved In Coniston Dig-out

On Friday 28th November, Cumbria Police announced that a further four people have been arrested over the Coniston Foxhounds dig-out, bringing the total number of arrests to sixteen.

These latest arrests were made in the Powys area of Wales and Cumbria Police now believe that the November 8th event was a joint meet – a joint enterprise – between the Coniston Foxhounds and the Teme Valley Hunt.

Like the Coniston, the Teme Valley are a member pack of the British Hound Sports Association, making a mockery of the BHSA’s claim to promote “legal hunting.” The Teme Valley also enjoys the full support of the Countryside Alliance; in fact, under their new membership scheme anyone joining the Countryside Alliance today could nominate the Teme Valley to receive a £50.00 donation from their coffers. That would be enough for a decent shovel and perhaps a digging bar – ideal for prising an exhausted, hunted fox from her underground refuge.

The seven fell packs – who hunt the mountain ranges of Cumbria on foot – are very popular with visitors from lowland hunts and there is a long-standing tradition of the Teme Valley Hunt visiting the Coniston Foxhounds. This is, of course, further evidence of what the HSA has been saying for years: hunts are working together in a national conspiracy to commit wildlife crime on a weekly basis.

With the government consultation on so-called “trail hunting” just weeks away, the HSA believes that there are many more damaging revelations to come from the horrendous Coniston-Teme Valley dig out.

This would of course have remained a dirty secret, had brave Lake District Hunt Sabs not been on hand to expose the hunters’ cruelty.
