SpyCop stands for office, sabs fight back!

Voters in next week’s  Peterborough local elections have (at least) one unusual choice at the ballot box. Despite repeated public exposure and damning evidence of sexual misconduct, undercover spycop and one time infiltratror of the Hunt Saboteurs Association, Andy Coles is running for councillor.

Andy Van (as he was once known) is now running for the Barnack Ward as a Tory councillor. 

On his campaign website, he asks:

What sets Andy apart from the other candidates in this election?

Well, Andy (and we’re sure you, in particular, can’t object to a bit of overfamiliarity), we’re going to take a wild guess and say none of the other candidates embarked on a career of professional lying? Maybe they haven’t stolen a dead child’s name  and then written a textbook on identity theft? Have they engaged in a series of abusive relationships with women they deceived and then flagrantly denied it ever happened?

As detailed previously by the HSA Andy Coles played a pivotal role in the long-term infiltration of ecological, left-wing, and animal rights groups by undercover police. His field deployment lasted from 1991 to ‘95. Throughout that deployment, he was an active hunt sab, a member of the Animal Liberation Front support group and even organised an ALF raid on a battery chicken farm! People who sabbed with him though him though recall him as “a bit of a nonentity”, another said “he never got out of the van, like he was scared of his own shadow“.

Any commitment to animal rights was of course, a total fiction. During his later incarnation as a Tory councillor, he voted against banning voted against banning a Countryside Alliance organised “Festival of Hunting” in Peterborough, saying:

“You suggest that trail hunting is a cruel sport. Occasionally, there are accidents – we accept that happens – but it’s not actually a cruel sport.”

After his deployment, he wrote the infamous “tradecraft manual”, which encouraged spycops to steal the identities of dead children and have “fleeting and disastrous” relationships with activists. Coles wasn’t loath to take his own advice. He embarked on at least one long-term relationship with hunt saboteur “Jessica” (she was 19 and he was 32 and married) and acquired a reputation as “creepy” and “a lech”, a judgment confirmed by at least one other undercover officer (HN1)  who gave evidence to the Spycops inquiry.

Since his role as an undercover officer became public in 2017, Coles was forced to resign as Deputy Crime and Police Commissioner for Cambridge. However, he sought re-election as a councillor. Having been turfed out of his previous council seat (Fletton and Woodstone) after a three-year incumbency he’s decided to try again in Barnack.

Campaigners, including Jessica, have been taking the fight to Coles’ doorstep, under the banner Sack Andy Coles.

Jessica said:

“I find it shocking and in extremely poor taste that Andy Coles thinks he is suitable to stand for Peterborough Council yet again. He was in a position of power over me when I was a teenager and absolutely took advantage of me.

Peterborough deserves so much better than Andy Coles. He is completely unfit to stand for public office. The women of Peterborough need someone decent, without a long documented history of sexual misconduct.”

Over the Easter weekend, Sack Andy Coles were out delivering leaflets in the Barnack Ward, letting voters know who exactly their local Tory candidate was and is – take a look at the leaflet here.

At least one of the leaflets made its way into Coles’ grubby mitts, causing apoplexy. Andy took to his Facebook page and referred to the leaflet as “scurrilous” and claimed it was distributed by “animal rights extremists” as part of a “vendetta”. He asks if anyone with a copy of the leaflet could hand it over so he could refer it to the police.

Jessica wasn’t slow to fire back :

“If you want a copy of the leaflet Andy Coles, I’d suggest you ask any of your neighbours. Or anyone in Helpston. Or Barnack, Bainton, Ufford or even Southorpe. We delivered 1000 on Wednesday, so there are plenty around.

However, this is just a smoke screen to try and distract from the real issue here. Your predatory sexual conduct. This campaign, my campaign if you will, is about that and how you are totally unfit and unsuitable for public office. This is why I will continue to tell people about you and what you did. I didn’t have anyone looking out for me when I was 19, nobody to protect me from you. So I will do everything I can to protect other women and young girls from you. It’s that simple.“
