Hunt Sabs Esk-Alate Their Campaign Against Mink Hunting!

Last Saturday the 7th June, the Northern Counties Mink Hounds were caught hunting on the River Esk near Glaisdale on the edge of the North York Moors. This victory follows two successful outings against the Midlands based Dove Valley Mink Hounds earlier in the season.

Great teamwork by Sheffield sabs and other saboteur groups caught the hounds careering along the banks of the Esk around midday on Saturday, just a short distance from their remote meet at Rake Lane. On sight of sabs, the hunters made the traditional about-turn and hightailed it back to the hound trailer!

It has been a tumultuous few years for the Northern Counties – it seems they have yet another new huntsman and, judging by the embarrassing turn-out on Saturday, their support has dwindled still further. Back in the 1990s, this pack could attract dozens of supporters across their vast country which ranged from the Midlands right up into Northumberland but – as with so many hunts – those days are long gone.

However, the Northern Counties are still a threat to all riverside wildlife – the Esk Fishery Association states that “otters now abound” in the area.

The HSA welcomes any information about them and any other mink hunt.
